New Leisure Activities During Pandemic

During the quarantine, time has been abundant. We used to spend so much of it from and to places, but now that we are confined, we don’t know what to do with it. I’ve taken up chess. It helps me focus on something other than the uncertainty of the situation. Inside those sixty four squares, everything has its place and rules. While things aren’t exactly predictable, they can be controlled. When I was fourteen years old, my grandfather sat me down and passed me my first chess set. He believes that chess is a fundamental knowledge. We spent hours together; teaching me that new and exciting game. Sadly, I left my chess set in my cupboard to gather dust. Then one day, seven years later, while cleaning, I stumbled upon that old forgotten chess board. I remembered the joy that it had brought me in the past, and decided right then and there, to play once more. Now it’s me and my boyfriend, Yerko, who play together. It brings the nostalgia of a simpler time, but at the same time, takes up all my concentration. I’m proud to say that I kick my boyfriend’s ass. He is quite the sore loser, and it cracks me up every time I see his eyes desperately scanning the board, looking for a way out of my check.

I hope you enjoyed reading :)<3
